A friend of mine asked me “How do I change the Modified Date Of a File?” In this case the Modified Date was showing way older than the Creation Date, which was causing some file to not open. So I went on a search for some way of changing these, as Windows 7 will not let you change these values. In the end I finally came across a wonderful tool called FileTouch.
According to the developer this is the use for their software:
When developing or testing software, there are times when you need to reset a file’s date and time created, last modified, and/or last accessed.
FileTouch is Freeware, and a single .exe program which does not need installing. The only requirement is that you have .NET Framework 3.5 installed.
My home server called WOPR, finally got a full service. It was needing some attention for a while. It was running Ubuntu 9.04 for a while now, but it would always be updated by APT, so it would run the latest updates from the Universe repository. Anyway I decided to bite the bullet and go for the full bumper back updates.
I first prepared the server for updates by making sure I had all the needed tools, done this by issuing one command
sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
Once I was sure I had all the needed update components I simply ran
sudo do-release-upgrade --devel-release
This then basically pulls the whole install components direct from the repository’s. The server decided to upgrade me to Ubuntu 9.10, with a massive amount of updated components, and only a few unneeded ones that got removed. This process took around 30 minuets and downloaded 700mb. I honestly have no idea why the server decided to go to 9.10 but it just did.
I then ran the update script again, this time it was pulling the new 10.4 build which is the one I wanted. so another 700mb downloaded and around 30 minuets update time. However a lot more was changed and some programs dropped because no longer needed. However it would appear the majority of the changes where based around GRUB and APT repository files etc. So anyway after the update the server had to be rebooted. Now I have done kernel updates many times and never had an issue, but I just had the feeling something was going to go wrong. Boy did it go wrong!
Basically in Ubuntu 10.4 they have introduced what appears to be some new way of mounting and checking for mounted drives when booting, as this feature was not in 9.10 etc. Well previusly I have had my EHD (External Hard Disk) setup as a mounted drive. However I never removed the mount, and thus as Ubuntu 10.4 booted it could not fine the drive and error, however I did not know this. I’m sitting here wondering why my home server has not come backup. I then have to dig the box out, wire it up to a display, only to see Ubuntu 10.4 ASKING me to press S to SKIP the missing mount! Not an awesome feature for a server I might state! Considering most servers are headless units!
However that was the only error, the server is working fine. (Let’s HOPE!)
So today I finally quit my retail job. Retail is very challenging, mostly because you have to deal with the general public on a daily basis and get shouted at a fair amount.
“Why have you not got this in stock” etc. Don’t get me wrong I deal with this quite well and have adapted to deal with criticism and complaints.
I had done this job for 9 years. It was my first job that I got, and I kept with it because it was very flexible with my studies and other personal stuff. But it did not really suit my overall job goal. Don’t get me wrong working in retail has taught me a fair amount:
But I’m sorry to say shop retail is currently not where I want to be right this moment, would rather be in Technology. Most of all I will miss the staff from my old store, as well as the staff at my original store before I transferred to move up the chain of command as such.
I have got a new job working as an IT Technician for a Graphics Design Company up London. The company it’s self seem very lively and open. I love the work they do, considering they done some design work for the retail company I worked for as well! I am also media orientated as I do a fair amount of photography and some web design as well. I’m really looking forward to starting!
Today I finally pushed the Upgrade for WordPress 3.0 out. It was released yesterday (17/06/2010) but I decided to hold back and backup everything etc. Well now that everything is fully backed up I finally made the push.
I had no idea what to expect from WordPress 3.0, however over the next few days changes might be made to this website. The only physical change I can see is mostly admin side. Mostly because I am unsure of how some plug-ins will play with WordPress 3.0. So expect some bugs and errors and other random stuff! Overall apparently WordPress 3.0 is more secure and has over 1000 bug fixes and code updates etc. So this will be interesting.
They say the Road To Recovery is a long one, well mine feels like a bloody road with no end in sight! First of all I’m very glad I no longer have a hernia. I had the operation on Friday and everything went well. It’s just the recovery that’s annoying! It’s so dam painful it’s unreal!
The whole of my right groin looks like road kill! It’s swollen up like mad, although in a few wonderful colors of Red, Purple and a pinch of Yellow for added epicness. I can tell you now that the location of this operation is not exactly comfortable. Mostly due to it being bang splat in my groin area. Which overall makes it very painful to stand and walk, however I am attempting to walk around the house etc!
The other annoying issue is getting up from sitting down or out of bed is like conquering Everest. Things must be done in stages and if not it often will end in failure or my case massive bloody pain! Then we move onto walking, well now the only way to describe that is, it’s like walking as if your 80 years old and hunched forwards, then add a bit of John Wayne walk into the mix as well. However the more I walk and move etc the more upright I can start to walk. So it’s a case of perseverance and all should be good.
The next challenge is stairs. These are evil because you have to shift your weight as you move up them etc. It’s a real challenge which takes a while. Again imagine an 80 year old person walking up stairs, it’s something that’s not done I tell ya! Not Done!!!!! Now I understand why they get those stair lift things! I want one!
So overall I currently feel like my groin is being stabbed by a hot poker, and pain killers are my new found friend. Personally I would rather have this “Healing Pain” rather than the bloody Hernia pains I had before! As I know it’s getting better rather than getting worse. It is nice to stand and walk and not have your guts slightly shift downwards. Oh how I have NOT missed that!
I suppose either way you look at it you will get pain, but the question I ask you is “What would you prefer?”
Those of you who are interested I have found some information on Hernias, in my case Inguinal hernia.
