The Project codenamed Phoenix, was created by eight members of Microsoft’s Windows team. It was one of the human-powered flying devices entered in the Red Bull Flugtag event in Long Beach, California. The aim of the Red Bull Flugtag is to build a human powered flying machine and see how far you can launch yourself off a pier.
The glider was colored out in the traditional Windows Colors of Red, Green, Yellow and Blue. The glider looked rather impressive.
Microsoft pumped up the crowed with an interesting mix of windows sounds mixed with Sandstorm (Please Microsoft Release the track!), and a little dance, before pushing the glider down the launching ramp.
However what happened next can only be all to common of the traditional days of Windows. After just 15 seconds of up-time the system ultimately crashed. The end result is ultimately hilarious and worth a watch. However looking at the video the glider appears to be perfectly sound, so maybe the load balance was slightly off. I do hope Microsoft release Phoenix 2.0 now that Phoenix 1.0 is out of Beta testing.
