LastPass
Posted Under Technology By Dan Briant At 11:11 am On October 31, 2010

I was recently introduced to the program called LastPass by my good friend Matt (Dragon). The program it’s self is basically an online password manager. It stores all your passwords in one area, which can sync across browsers. The program can generate on the fly passwords and save them, best of all you can view the passwords as well. It’s viewable on their website and as a plugin for browsers.

If you’re using the browser plugin it can communicate with the forms and auto fill information for you and even auto log you into the website. They also have on-screen keyboards for when there could be key loggers etc. Which makes this program safe to use on computers you don’t know the security off. For me LastPass has been a great help in organising those long passwords used for sensitive things like PayPal, server logins etc. LastPass also has a built-in password strength meter and you can check how secure your passwords are. Overall I think it’s a nice product that I have deployed at home and work.

Best of all LastPass is free but they also offer a Premium Version for $1 a month, which offers a program for mobiles, no adverts, and authentication from a USB Key!

Jackboots on Whitehall
Posted Under General By Dan Briant At 1:06 pm On October 10, 2010

Jackboots on Whitehall is a film about an Epic Story of Honour, Courage and PUPPETS! They just so happen to be England’s last hope in a German invasion of London in World War 2. A story so big it had to be scaled down! Jackboots on Whitehall boast cast members of Ewan McGregor,Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Timothy Spall, Tom Wilkinson and Alan Cumming.

The film is based on an alternative timeline whereby the British evacuation of Dunkirk had failed and the British army and airforce is wiped out. All that stands between the German army is British civilians. They have to help rescue Churchill from the London invasion. I know what your thinking oh puppets etc. But it’s hilarious to watch. I suppose the only way to describe this film is a cross between thunderbirds and Southpark. Then add a dash of comedy and a pinch of parody.

Blast From The Past!
Posted Under General By Dan Briant At 8:21 pm On September 12, 2010

Today was started with a major surprise. In-fact a blast from the past, no I’m not referring to the 1999 film – Blast from the past! In-fact far from it! I had someone contact me who I have not seen in years and by years I mean like well over 10 years!
I woke up to find a message from Danielle in my FaceBook inbox. At first I was a little confused and trying to rack my brain about who this person was. As I have a real rubbish memory I swear! But then I noticed that she was friends with some people I knew! As it turns out she was in the year above me in primary school! It was nice to chat with someone you have not seen in years and catch up! In-fact it was a welcomed surprise and really made my day, knowing someone went out their way to track someone down they have not seen in years!
It’s not often you get people that you aint seen in years come looking for you! But overall I’m very happy to have a new found friend!

Survived London Tube Strike
Posted Under General By Dan Briant At 3:49 pm On September 8, 2010

Yesterday the major backbone of London ground to a halt. I’m talking about the Tube, or commonly know as The Underground. Basically 60% of the Underground staff decided to strike bringing chaos to commuters. The strike was over pay and job cuts and to be fair I agree with the Underground staff! Stations are already becoming increasingly understaffed.

Anyway my journey was chaotic. I had to get a train into Charring Cross, then walk down to Embankment station. Finally arrive at the platform look at the departure board and see trains are running slow and even then it’s just district line. The beloved Circle line was fully suspended, which now meant I had to take the longest route ever to get to work. I work over at Bayswater, and my only other alternative was to get the Central line to Queensway, but that was part suspended as well!

My only alternative was to hop on the next tube to Victoria and get a bus, while heading on the tube countless stations where closed. It was pure chaotic. Once at Victoria Station the only way to describe the scene was a war zone. Everyone was rushing around had no idea where they where going and lines for buses where long! I finally found my bus stop and on the way met a man riding a child’s push scooter to work! The bus I got was a 148, but the route it takes is crazy long, it went round the houses to get there. But I managed to get to work basically on time! Shame the same thing can’t be said for those who live in TOWN!

However the way home was far worse! All the buses where packed and I had to wait an hour to finally get on a bus that would stop for me! But while at Victoria I came across the news crew and their satellite up-link van.

Microsoft Phoenix Failes To Rise
Posted Under General By Dan Briant At 8:00 pm On August 23, 2010

The Project codenamed Phoenix, was created by eight members of Microsoft’s Windows team. It was one of the human-powered flying devices entered in the Red Bull Flugtag event in Long Beach, California. The aim of the Red Bull Flugtag is to build a human powered flying machine and see how far you can launch yourself off a pier.

The glider was colored out in the traditional Windows Colors of Red, Green, Yellow and Blue. The glider looked rather impressive.
Microsoft pumped up the crowed with an interesting mix of windows sounds mixed with Sandstorm (Please Microsoft Release the track!), and a little dance, before pushing the glider down the launching ramp.

However what happened next can only be all to common of the traditional days of Windows. After just 15 seconds of up-time the system ultimately crashed. The end result is ultimately hilarious and worth a watch. However looking at the video the glider appears to be perfectly sound, so maybe the load balance was slightly off. I do hope Microsoft release Phoenix 2.0 now that Phoenix 1.0 is out of Beta testing.
